When Austrian bike maker KTM dove into the quad racing world with the 525 XC, people sat up and took notice. KTM's foundation is in dirt bike production, but this quad proves that it’s ready and eager to compete with Honda, Yamaha and others in the production of race worthy ATV quads.
The 525 is a big brother to the 400, which KTM introduced at the same time. The 525 is where the kick is at. Sporting a 510.4cc (95mm bore x 72mm stroke) single overhead cam, four valve, liquid cooled engine, it's extremely responsive acceleration means this is a machine you'll have to control or it will run away from you. It's fast and it's powerful. Thankfully KTM doesn't sacrifice rideability and comfort for speed. The suspension system on the 525 is built around Öhlins shocks, which provide for a smooth ride even over the toughest terrain. Front shocks are dual-rate springs and the rear of the quad is covered by the Öhlins Position Dampening System (PDS). The 525 carries an adjustable rear axle to allow a racer to customize their quad for tight race tracks or open field tracks. Other factors contributing to comfort over long rides are the soft seat which comes with the 525 and the steering column which is adjustable in four directions. The KTM 525 XC is a racing quad that's ready for the track even as a stock ATV. Its powerful acceleration makes it an idea choice for riders who prefer a sharp burst of power. It's a high performance quad for the serious racer. |
