Tips For the ATV Beginner

The first thing you must learn about an ATV is safety. ATVs have caused more injuries than other outdoor sports but that is because people did not take the proper safety precautions. First and foremost, you have to wear a helmet and other protective gear. Most injuries can be avoided if your head is protected. The second safety rule is to never ride an ATV that is too large. You won’t be able to control it properly and it could fall on top of you if you’re not careful. It’s also important to never drive on public raids and to stick to trails and areas that are designated for ATV driving. It goes without saying that you should never operate an ATV under the influence of drugs or alcohol and that you should always drive at reasonable speeds.

Now that you’ve got safety under your belt, its time to move on the good stuff: Driving. There are courses offered all over the country for ATV riders and they are highly recommended. However, you can learn to drive an ATV with the help of another knowledgeable, responsible ATV rider. You can follow them on trails and ask question and get pointers on controlling an ATV as well. A more proficient rider will be able to take you through the basics and teach you proper form, acceleration and braking techniques. In just a short time you will be about to drive around with ease. That doesn’t mean you should start trying to perform any tricks just yet. Most injuries happen because of over confidence so make sure you have a good grip on the basics over a long period of time before you start trying the more intermediate skills.
