ATV Tips and Tricks

Many people enjoy riding all terrain vehicles for fun and for sport. There are many tips and tricks that can make riding more enjoyable for beginners as well as advanced riders. Let’s take a look at some helpful tips and tricks that can be used when riding an all terrain vehicle.

The four wheel drive feature on most ATVs come in two modes, four low and four high. These two modes can be used depending upon the situation. For example, four high mode should be used to gain speed in slippery conditions that contain snow, ice, or mud. Four low is generally used to creep along slippery terrain. This gear, however, is not used to gain traction, but torque instead. Four wheel drive is not intended for use on a hard, dry surface. As a good rule of thumb, use a lower gear when you are not certain of the terrain.

Going through mud on an ATV can be a challenge for even an advanced rider. A good tip for riding through a deep mud hole is to first spray down all of the exposed parts of the four wheeler with a lubricant such as WD-40. This will prevent mud from sticking and make it easier to wash it off later.

Water is the number one enemy for electrical parts. That’s why it is important to cover them with plastic before you begin to wash the ATV. Plastic bags can be used to cover the carburetor and air filter also.
