Motocross Training

Riding a motocross track is not for the beginning cyclist. Maybe an average cyclist could make it around the track a couple of times. But if you want to run a motocross race, mixing it up with other cyclists, jumping, sliding, and bumping, then you need to do some serious training.

Motocross training consists of two parts. First, become one with your bike. This is partially having inborn ability for the sport and partially learning how to get the most from your bike in all kinds of track conditions. This requires hours and hours of practice over years of time, learning tips from more experienced riders and watching how others handle the challenges around the track.

The second part of motocross training is to condition your body to absorb the punishment from bouncing around a track, lap after lap. Riding a motorcycle in a motocross event takes an enormous amount of energy, not to mention the wear and tear on the body. Injury is always lurking over the next hill or around the next corner. The best way to avoid injury and enjoy more of the ride is to get your body prepared.

Ride a motorcycle around an average motocross track for 10 minutes and your heart will be pounding and your head will be sweating. Motocross is a very strenuous sport. To prepare, you need to work on conditioning your body through aerobic exercises and functional strength training exercises. Rather than pure weight lifting or strength training, a cyclist's body needs to do exercises that use total muscle groups together.

Being a good motocross rider requires stamina, balance, and good riding posture. Training both on the bike and off will give you the advantage.
