ATV Riding Areas

If you are a resident of Georgia or Alabama, you will be surprised at the number of places you can ride your ATV. For instance, in North Georgia there are 49 different ATV trails that are available for riding. Alabama has several areas as well. There are great websites that list ATV trails anywhere in the United States. The important thing to know is what the regulations are on each trail. Check with the local Forest Service before using off-road trails.

Take off for Lumpkin County, Georgia for a great day on the ATV. They have many outdoor recreation areas for any member of the family. Take your camping equipment and spend the night in one of the two publicly owned camping areas. There are 5 waterfalls and 14 OHV trails in Lumpkin County. The trails are in the Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forest. The Wissenhut OHV Trail is north on US19/60 and about 2 miles from Dahlonega, Georgia. Habersham County, Georgia has over 1,000 acres with 17 miles of ORV trails.

Dirty Dog Mud Park, just south of Columbus, Georgia, reopened in January of 2009 and it is a mudder's dream. Check out ATVtrails.org for pictures and descriptions of the area. Dirty Dog has plenty of mud pits and small hills throughout the park. In northern Alabama, close to Fort Payne, is Little River Canyon National Preserve. The National Park Service oversees many miles of trails. One nice feature of this riding area is that all the trails are clearly marked and numbered. All riders must be 16 years old to ride the trails.
