Races like this are held through out the country. Onsted, Michigan is one of those places. It is managed by the local Kiwanis club. They started with one extreme dirt track race as a way to make money for their local chapter. With the help of volunteers and local and national businesses the racing has become a big draw. The event was such a success that there will be six race days where participants can earn OMI points. Like most major races, there are practices on Friday nights with races on Saturday, beginning at 11 a.m. This is not a single race. There are multiple classes available for entry depending on the competitors age and experience. They offer racing opportunities to children as young as four years old. Safety is a major concern for management in Onsted and each vehicle is inspected before race time. Points are given to the top 10 finishers in each class. At the end of the year the people who are in the top three spots of each class are invited to a banquet. Those that win the class must move up to the next class next year. It is definitely a goal for all racers. |
