ATV Safety

There are numerous outdoor activities that can be enjoyed in life. It doesn't matter whether you are playing catch with a friend or relative, jumping on a trampoline, playing golf, or riding an ATV, there are safety precautions that must be taken to ensure that everyone is safe. In many cases, all it takes is a little common sense, but when it comes to riding an ATV, there are a few "must dos" to keep in mind. We all want to be safe, and following just a few guidelines can drastically affect the safety of all.

First of all, of course, always wear a helmet. It is a very good idea to wear some sort of eye protection, as well, but absolutely always wear a helmet! Do not wear shorts when riding, due to the risk of burns from the exhaust pipe. Long pants and long sleeved shirts are recommended, and never ride with a passenger. A passenger makes it more difficult to maneuver and control the ATV and introduces the threat of having an accident. Don't ride faster than conditions permit, either. Take it slow enough to feel comfortable that you will be able to handle anything that might happen.

Younger riders, under 16, should not ride an ATV that is over 90cc because they may not be able to control the weight of a larger unit. All riders should read the owner's manual, paying attention to all warnings, before riding. It is also a good idea to take an ATV training course. ATV safety is very important and with some common sense and instruction, everyone should be capable of operating one safely.
